Building real, relatable financial health conversations for young Nigerians
Onyemeri is a student at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike in Nigeria. She wants young Nigerians to stop feeling ashamed of what they don't know about money and start feeling empowered to learn — and she's building outreaches, content, and conversations to get there.
"Financial health means having control over your money instead of your money controlling you. It means being able to know how to use your money properly."
I've seen how financial stress affects decision-making, confidence, and even academic or career performance. Many young people are talented but limited by poor financial guidance.
Lack of practical financial education. Most people were never taught how to budget, save, invest, or manage income. We learn through mistakes, pressure, or crisis. There's also cultural pressure to 'look successful' even when finances are unstable.
As an ambassador, I don't just want to repost flyers. I want to build conversations around financial health in a way that feels real and relatable. I want young people to stop feeling ashamed of not knowing and start feeling empowered to learn. I'll focus on students in my university, young professionals transitioning from school to the workforce, and young women who want financial independence but lack guidance — mostly through organizing outreaches.
